Setting up a Facebook for your Business

Jul 25, 2018 11:20:46 AM / by Nouveau Contour USA

So, you’ve decided to start your own salon business, or have decided to take on the endeavors of marketing for a salon. Creating an effective marketing strategy can be a daunting process especially if you’re already juggling running a business, booking clients, and keeping up with evolving trends (have you heard of Hybrid Brows?!).

Well if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, look no further because we made this blog to help. And if you’re wondering where’s a good place to start marketing your business, Facebook would be the right choice.

By creating your salon or business a Facebook page, you’ve joined the community of 60 million businesses worldwide who have made the smart decision of taking their business marketing online. With people spending an absurd amount of time on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media outlets, one would be foolish to not take their marketing strategy online.

Creating your Facebook page

Not to be confused with setting up your personal profile, although we will touch on this later. To begin setting up your salons Facebook page you’ll have to go here and click on the blue button “Create a Page”.

You're then prompted to decide between creating a "business or brand page" or a "Community or public figure" page. For your salon and any type of business, you will select "get started"in the "Business or brand" option.

Next, you’ll have to choose a name for your page, this part’s easy because you should name it directly after your business name. Then proceed to select your category, this should fall under something like “Beauty Salon” or “Spa”, whatever you think fits your line of work. You’ll then have to fill out some info about your business such as its address and phone number (make sure that this is accurate so your clients are able to find you!).

Upload a profile picture

Give your business page a face, a picture that represents your brand and that will serve as the first impression your clients will have of your page. Remember to keep it professional and high quality (a blurry picture of yourself isn’t going to be the best representation of your business). Instead, think about using a model or good quality photo of your best work. If your face is the face of the brand then go ahead and use a headshot – we would recommend incorporating your logo into it as well if you’re able to.

The size of your Facebook profile picture has to fit within 180 X 180 pixels (a perfect square). So just keep this in mind when choosing and editing your profile pic – you don’t want to be cropping part of your logo or making the subject of your picture unrecognizable! Remember, this is what your clients and followers will see first when you interact with them.

Add a Cover Photo

Next you should upload a cover photo – a long, horizontal picture that serves as a banner to your page. Use this as an opportunity to show off your brand through an amazing visual of your work, salon, tools, anything that's eye-catching and related to your brand!

You could switch these out seasonally to make your page look more festive. Or you could also use it as a space to advertise a promotion your running. Get creative with it and just remember to keep it on brand!

The dimensions of a Facebook cover photo are 851 X 315. You can upload any picture and Facebook will auto adjust your image to fit, of you can custom make your own. When you’re done, just press save.

Update Your About Me Page

Now that you have some great branded visuals to represent your salon, it’s time to add your business information. On the left-hand side, select the “About” option.

Here you will be given an opportunity to add your business info such as your website, email address, etc. You should also add a description of your business under “More Info” where it says, “Edit About”.

This is your chance to tell your potential clients why you’re the best in the business, why they should choose you, what your mission in, whatever it is you feel necessary to describe your brand to its fullest!

Create a username for your page

The final step in creating your business page is to create your page's username. This username will become your pages web address that you can give clients to find your page easily – so make it something easy and relating to your brand! If your businesses name is available, we suggest you use this.

To add your username, click on "Create Page @Username" underneath your pages profile picture. You'll have to pick something that isn't being used by another business, as this is how your clients will find you and other pages will be able to take you using the @ symbol.

Page Roles

Will you have multiple people working on your business page? Page roles allow you to assign "roles" to each of your employees that will be working on your page. This can be used to give certain employees rights that other employees may not be allowed to have. To reach this page click “Settings” located on the top right of your cover photo. Once on your settings page, find where it says “Page Roles” and select that.

For example, let’s say you want an employee the role of just adding pictures but you don’t want them answering messages on your business page. You’re able to do this by selecting the appropriate page role for that employee.

Add employees by typing their email or name in the search box. By clicking on the grey box next to the search box you can select what role to assign your employee. If you're unsure of what to attribute your employees, a description appears underneath the search box each time you choose a position.

Once you've selected an employee and their role, click "Add." You can add and reassign roles as many times as possible. To reassign a role or delete an employee from the page just select the "Edit" button next to their name.

Your Business Page is Ready to Go!

You should now have a professionaly put together business page. Now you can take some time to invite people to like your page. You could also start uploading pictures that you that you think best represents your brand and that you'd like to show off to your clients, maybe even upload a video or post a status. Further on in this blog we'll go over how to create engaging and intresting content.
